What the Monitoring Covers

Barrel room temperature and humidity. Continuous tracking with alerts when conditions drift outside your specified range. Especially valuable overnight and on weekends when the room is unattended.

Cool room and cold storage temperature. A compressor failure or defrost issue that goes unnoticed for hours can result in significant stock loss. Monitoring provides early warning.
Glycol chiller performance. Tracking glycol supply temperature, return temperature and system pressures gives an early indication of performance degradation – often before a complete failure occurs. A gradual rise in glycol supply temperature can flag a fouling condenser or declining refrigerant charge before it trips an alarm.

Cellar door and tasting room conditions. Monitoring can flag if the cellar door air conditioning fails during a busy weekend when staff may not notice the temperature climbing.

How the System Works

We install compact wireless or wired sensors in the locations that matter most: barrel rooms, cool rooms, tank rooms and cellar doors. These sensors report data to a central monitoring platform accessible to both you and our service team. You can check conditions from your phone at any time.

Alert thresholds are set to your specifications. When a reading crosses the threshold, an alert is sent immediately by text, email or app notification. If your service plan includes monitored response, the alert also goes to our team and we can dispatch a technician without waiting for your call.

Why Monitoring Matters in the Hunter Valley

Ambient temperatures that swing from 10°C in winter to 40°C or more in summer mean equipment operates across a wide range. Humidity fluctuations stress barrel room systems. Power supply interruptions in rural areas can take cooling offline without warning. Monitoring catches all of these events in real time, giving you the opportunity to respond before stock is affected.

Getting Started

Remote monitoring can be added to any existing winery refrigeration or climate control system. The hardware is installed during a scheduled service visit and does not require significant modification to existing equipment. For service plan clients, monitoring is available as a standard inclusion.

Call Coalfields Climate Control on 0422 493 102 to discuss monitoring for your winery.

Coolroom and Freezer Room Issues

Aircon-graphic
Loss of Cooling When refrigeration stops working, stored products quickly spoil and create costly losses. Common causes include faulty switches, electrical connection failures, voltage irregularities, or tripped circuit breakers requiring immediate attention.
air-conditioning-icon
Product Spoilage Items deteriorating despite refrigeration indicates temperature inconsistencies throughout the space. Our technicians systematically check all zones to locate warm spots and identify circulation problems before implementing targeted solutions.

Elevated Temperatures Rising temperatures above set points signal system inadequacy or operational issues. Insufficient cooling capacity, restricted airflow, or oversized storage areas commonly cause this problem. Australia's extreme heat conditions often amplify these cooling challenges.

Over-Freezing Issues Excessive freezing damages products, causing stock loss and energy waste through incorrect temperature controls. Direct cold air exposure from poorly positioned evaporator coils frequently causes localised freezing in storage areas.

FAQs about Winery Refrigeration Monitoring and Alerts

  • Most systems require an internet connection. WiFi or a wired connection is usually sufficient. For sites without reliable internet, cellular-enabled sensors that use the mobile network are available.

  • You have full access. The platform provides a dashboard you can view on your phone, tablet or computer at any time – real-time readings, historical trends and alert history. Our team also has access so we can respond to alerts and review performance during service visits.

  • At minimum, you receive an immediate notification. If your service plan includes monitored response, the alert is also sent to our team and we can dispatch a technician or call you to discuss the best course of action.

  • There is a one-off hardware cost for the sensors and a modest ongoing monitoring fee, both outlined in your service agreement. For most wineries, the cost is easily justified by the value of the stock being protected and the early-warning benefit.
